The DeTour Reef Light was built in 1931 offshore of DeTour point at the mouth of the St. Mary's River at the southeastern tip of the UP of Michigan. The DeTour Reef Light Preservation Society formed in 1998 and has since completely restored the light to it's 1931 appearance. A more dedicated and motivated group of conservationists I've never seen.

In July of 2005 I was priveleged to serve as a keeper on DRL for a weekend during the public tours. This was an amazing experience, and I recommend it to anyone.

After serving as a keeper I wrote an article about the experience that was published in the October 2005 issue of Lighthouse Digest. To read the online version of the article, click here.
